Game Creek in brief
- Local Tlingit people used the Game Creek area long before any modern settlement; the creek itself was named in 1901 by E.F. Dickins of the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey. (maps.commerce.alaska.gov · checked Oct 16, 2026)
- The site was first settled by members of a separatist religious group known as "The Farm" — the Mount Bether Bible Center — whose members pool individual assets and income for the good of the community, a practice the state's community database still records. (maps.commerce.alaska.gov · checked Oct 16, 2026)
- Growth of the community later led members to start a second settlement near Haines. (seconference.org · checked Oct 16, 2026)
- In a February 2023 letter to Alaska's Local Boundary Commission, Mt. Bether Bible Center described Game Creek as an agricultural community that receives no power, water, or sewer from Hoonah and is reached by boat on a high tide or by a trail from a road-end parking lot, with dock and trail kept. (commerce.alaska.gov · checked Oct 16, 2026)
- In December 2024 the Local Boundary Commission approved, 3-2, the incorporation of the Xunaa Borough and dissolution of the City of Hoonah, with Game Creek inside the new borough's boundaries alongside Elfin Cove and Funter Bay. (commerce.alaska.gov · checked Oct 16, 2026)
